In the drowning sea of neon and glitter that is the Biloxi, Mississippi shore, a small beacon of the town's nautical past still shines. It is called the Seafood Industry Museum.
The Seafood Museum sits in a boat storage yard beneath the glow of The Boomtown and Imperial Palace casinos. Featured exhibits consist mainly of old photographs and salvaged schooner parts. Outside, two full-size schooner replicas sail daily. A special "Camille Exhibit" (more photos) pays homage to the worst storm to every hit the Gulf Coast - 1969s Hurricane Camille. Copies of the "Camille Was No Lady" video are for sale in the gift shop. Opened in 1986, the museum was set up to "preserve and interpret the maritime history and heritage of Biloxi." The building it is housed in was built in 1934 as part of a Coast Guard station. The Seafood Museum remembers the days when crabs, not craps, were king and you will definitely find very few bells and whistles on this voyage.
