A collection of miniature views from the 1940s allowed tourists
to mail the finer points of Rock City Gardens back home.
The gnomes in these early images seemed much more prominent
on the grounds than they are today.
The Red Riding Hood is curious because its date precedes the opening of "Fairyland Caverns."
Although Garnet Carter often gets most of the credit for developing Lookout Mountain, it was Frieda Carter's love of German children's stories that gave Rock City a surreal feel. The postcard on the left from the early 1950s depicts one of the dioramas inside the caverns. It is tangible proof that Freida did indeed know Jack.
