This Ain't No Disco

Mrs. Paul's listed Knoxville as #1 in per capita consumption of fish sticks.
A great sigh of relief went up by many as the age of disco grew to a close. Unfortunately, Knoxville was not informed of it's death when they erected the Sunsphere for the 1982 Word's Fair.

Themed "Energy Turns The World," the World's Fair in Knoxville saw an opening week attendance of 387,697 visitors with Pac-Man shirts on their backs and a vice known as Rubik's Cube concealed in their pocket. At the center was the brilliant, twinkling ball standing 266 feet with a 16,742 square foot surface.

The fair would prove to be a financial disaster and the last the world would ever get to see. The ball would remain behind. It stands high on it's platforms and shimmers like sequins on a party tramp's dress. I guess that's just the way Knoxville likes it - uh huh, uh huh.
