A postcard from the 1960s features the Citrus Tower in all its orange glory.
The reverse side explains how its location is "in the heart of the citrus belt."
It further points out that "thousands of acres of citrus groves can be seen."
The most fruit you will see presently are the grapes of nearby Lakeridge Winery.
Brochure images show off the "festive atmosphere" of the Citrus Tower's
restaurant and a Florida beauty queen posing inside the packing house.
Two attractions at the tower that have since been sent packing are the Circus Arcade
and Candy Kitchen.
Back on Tack questioned Doris, a worker at the Citrus Tower and resident of Clermont for 40 years.
She remembered much about the attractions on the back lot of the tower. Even reminding us of some
key points we had forgotten from our studies, like the full-time glass blower it had employed.
As sharp as Doris was, she had no recollection of what ever happened to the hand carved
circus miniatures once they left town. Like so much roadside, it has been left only to postcards and
tucked away tourist brochures that beckon us back to a fruitier time.
